This couple was married on a October evening in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Their ceremony took place at the cozy cafe, Milk and Roses, where they had their first date. The guest received white umbrellas as party favors which made for a beautiful and bright parade across the dark and rainy Manhattan Avenue to Le Fanfare where every enjoyed a delicious, family-style Italian meal together.
This wedding was a sweet, intimate affair and I wanted the flowers to reflect that. I selected flowers that were whimsical and airy to match the delicate details of the bride's dress and her sweet demeanor. The fluttering cosmos, trailing hellebores, and light green foliaged helped me to achieve the look.
The dahlias were to die for. They were grown by an old co-worker's son-in-law. He grows nothing but dahlias on his family's property and is really excellent at it, at least by the looks of the flowers. I included these beautiful peachy orange dahlias to add some fall color into the otherwise spring palette.
Le Fanfare is a sleek, well-designed restaurant with wonderful gold accents. We continued the airy look of the florals from the ceremony, but transitioned to a darker green for the evening venue. We designed a simple foliage installation over the main table to create a intimate atmosphere without overwhelming the space. We placed white pillar candles and limited greens on the tables. The meal was family-style so most of the narrow table space was taken up by food. The group size was relatively large for the small space and the restaurant was already so beautiful, that we decided to keep the foliage simple and focused so as not to crowd the space.
